1. Entering Registration details

To use Top Yacht for an extended period of time you need to have the correct name of the Sailing Club and its current User Registration code. A Registration code is current for 12 months.

For the Darwin Sailing Club (DSC) the Registration code expires each year on May 1.
Authorised members of the Club may obtain the correct name and current User code from the Sailing Manager.

After downloading and installing Top Yacht on your computer, open the application with a click on the Top Yacht icon displayed on the Desktop. This opens the TY Entry Screen.

  • Select Administration mode > > top Menu Bar > > Database > > User Registration

Do not type in the required details directly, but instead Copy and Paste the User Title and User Code into their required fields. Then select OK to return to the Entry screen.

2. Creating a new Database

A new Database needs to be created for each new racing season and also for special events and regattas such as the Arafura Games, NT Championships, DSC Club Championships, etc.

To create a new Database :

  • Select Administration mode > > top Menu Bar > > Database > > Create

This opens the Create a new Database screen.

  2. Name for new Database
Type in "TY Workshop" or "DSC Season 2007"

  3. Information to copy
    Always select User registration code
Select Master list of competitors plus scoring definitions if you wish to copy for example the Master list and Yardstick data from the previous season

  4. Existing database *
Select the Database from which you wish to copy the Registration code and Master list data
    For this Workshop select "WS1data"

  5. Select Create Database

* For editing a Database see Chapter 16 and 17

3. Creating a Finish Time Entry facility (FTE)

The DSC fleet currently consists of 11 different Divisions.
Most of these Divisions sail each weekend, but usually in different races in different Series.

The "Finish Time Entry" facility (FTE) allows finishing times for all competitors to be entered on one single Entry page. This avoids cumbersome switching backwards and forwards between different Division Series and races to enter Finish times as they become available.

To create a Finish Time Entry facility :

  • Select Administration mode > > then from the top Menu Bar > > Series > > Create New Series

The "SeriesSUWizardForm" appears.

  1. Page 1 - Type in the Series name : FTE 1

  2. Page 1 - Select from Series Type list : Finish Time Entry

  3. Page 1 - Select Accept, then Next

  4. Page 2 - leave setting as they are and select Next

  5. Page 3 - Select Add New Group

  6. Page 3 - Select any Group, for example Mixed Class YS
The FTE does not use a Handicap module, but one must be selected here to make it work properly.

  7. Page 3 - Select Close

Your FTE facility is now in place.

4. Division Groups and their Parent Handicap Series (PHCs)

Two important features in the DSC racing program dictate the way races are set up in the Top Yacht program.

  1. Different Division Groups each week may race different races in different Series.
There are four separate Division Groups in the DSC fleet. The Divisions in each Group sail the same race in the same Series each week. In other words the Divisions in any given Group may have different start times and sail different course, but they share the same racing program throughout the entire season.

The four Division Groups are :

    1. Divisions 10 & 11 : Minnow "Frogs" and "Tadpoles"

    2. Divisions 2, 6 & 7 : Off the Beach Monohulls

    3. Divisions 8 & 7 : Off the Beach Multihulls

    4. Divisions 1, 3, 4 & 5 : Keelboats, Trailables & Large Multihulls

  2. Races in each series are usually not on consecutive race days. A Division may race a Pointscore Series race one week and a Harbour Series race the following week. An other Pointscore race the week thereafter, and so on.

To accommodate these two features and at the same time allow Top Yacht to calculate a meaningful progressive stream of handicaps throughout the racing Season, four Parent Handicap Series, one for each Division Group, are set up to form the core of the Season's race processing engine.

wsh01.gif
Each and every race in a Division Group's race program is entered and processed in its PHC Series and each race is used in turn for handicap calculations.
In time the various individual Daughter Series are set up (Pointscore, Harbour, Passage, etc.) and receive their finish times and calculated handicaps from their corresponding PHC race.
For example a Harbour Series may consist of PHC Series races 1, 6, 8, 9, 11 and 12.
wsh02.gif
For ease of processing each PHC Series is set up so that it can be linked (if required) to the Finish Time Entry facility (FTE 1).
wsh03.gif
Division Group races are activated (= connected to the FTE 1) according to the race program of the day.
For example if the Minnows have a race in the morning their finish times will be available before lunchtime and can be entered separately and directly into their PHC 1011 without the use of the FTE.
The other Division Groups usually start their races in the afternoon and their finish times come in in a mixed up succession of cats, dinghies and keelboats. The PHC Series races for these Division Groups are therefore activated to link up to the FTE.
